 Ordinary People -

Every once in a while I take a step back to ponder where I've been in relation to where I'm going...or, to where I think I'm going. I went a long way back this afternoon...all the way to the boardwalk at Jacksonville Beach, Florida circa 1967 and 1968. A confirmed people watcher for much of my life, the practice was quite likely perfected during those long, long summers and I would sit for happy hours enjoying the ocean view and the denizens of that beach in their daily pursuits. It struck me, subtle as a flying mallet, that ordinary people doing the most ordinary things has always been a fascination of mine. Akin to driving down unfamiliar roads, past the houses of strangers, wondering, "Who lives there? What are their lives like? What's happening within those dimly, or brightly, lit interiors? These questions, this manner of thinking, this habit of attempting to "peek past the blinds" is at the heart of my work these days...ordinary people, doing ordinary things, an ordinary documentation - wishful, striving, bent upon reaching the extraordinary.  Mick Mather, from Syracuse Blog.
